Literature Text

Three men dance on the gallows pole
A murderer, witch, and thief.
Each one to pay for what they stole,
Each one to pay for grief.

A thief steals all that’s not tied down
For to him all belongs
Yet when his schemes have been undone
He’ll hang above the throng.

A killer steals what all hold close.
The life of those beloved.
The blood they spilled has been disclosed
And now their death has come.

A witch steals what brings most delight
Much more than death’s dear toll
For while a killer steals your life
A witch will steal your soul.

Now all three lengthwise dance a jig
The gallow’s creek for tune
The crowd will jeer, the grave be dug
And then the dance is done.
The lyrics to a shanty sung in a fantasy universe I am working on.  I haven't thought of a good tune to sing it to yet, but the words are there.
